One of the reasons I enjoy working in marketing and branding is because I genuinely enjoy helping businesses grow. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or local entrepreneur, if I can provide value, I usually say yes.
The Story:
Recently, someone reached out to me regarding a relative who runs a home-based food business. Out of respect for privacy, I will not share names or details. After reviewing the business’s Instagram presence, I immediately noticed there was significant room for improvement, so I offered a free consultation to provide honest and professional feedback.
During the meeting, I explained something very important in the food industry:
👉 People eat with their eyes before they eat with their mouth.
The food may taste incredible, but if the visuals are not appealing, the business loses opportunities before customers even place an order.
I also explained that:
- the brand lacked consistency
- the visual identity was unclear
- each social media post had a different look and feel
- there was no strong branding direction
- and the logo required refinement and repositioning
Unfortunately, the discussion became emotional when I mentioned the branding concerns. The response I received was:
“My friends and family love the logo.”
And this is exactly where many businesses struggle.
Friends and family are your support system. They care about you and naturally want to encourage you. But encouragement is not the same as strategic business feedback.
Professional growth requires:
- market awareness
- customer psychology
- branding strategy
- and the ability to accept constructive feedback
As a marketing consultant, my role is not simply to compliment businesses. My role is to identify weaknesses, improve positioning, and help brands become more competitive.
The Truth:
Today, many businesses rely only on Instagram without:
- a website
- SEO strategy
- structured branding
- customer journey planning
- or digital marketing systems
That creates missed opportunities.
A strong business is built on:
✔ professional presentation
✔ openness to feedback
✔ strategic communication
✔ consistency
✔ willingness to evolve
Sometimes the product is excellent, but the branding prevents growth.
And in many cases, businesses do not fail because the service is bad — they fail because they refuse to adapt, improve, or seek professional direction.
As always, I will continue supporting businesses in my community and providing honest advice to help them grow the right way.
